MXON - Qualifying Report

MXON Qualifying report

Video highlights HERE

MX1.  Team USAs #25 Eli Tomac started 11th in the Moto, and failed to make passes early in the Moto but then was locked in a battle with Team Great Britain’s Tommy Searle, the 2 Monster Energy Kawasaki riders were locked together in 5th and 6th position until lap 8 when tragedy struck the USA rider, his bike failed at the bottom of the Lorocco’s leap area, ending his race.     Tomac is ok and will be ready to race for tomorrows A main Finals.   Jeffery Herlings of the Netherlands team fell in turn #1 and came all the way back to 3rd in an Inspired Performance, look for him to make a statement tomorrow here at RedBud.  Antonio Cairoli of team Italy took the Moto win followed by Team Germanys Ken Roczen

MX 2. Aaron Plessinger rounded turn 1 in the 2nd position as Germanys Henry Jacobi held the lead on hi Husqvarn, on lap 4 the #26 Team USA Yamaha of Plessinger took the lead and his Star racing fellow Yamaha rider Dylan Ferrandis followed him and took over the 2nd place spot.   Team Australia’s Hunter Lawrence made himself known shortly after lap 5 and the 3 riders took off.  On lap 7 another disaster for the US team, as Plessinger came up sort on the “hammer of Thor” triple in the middle of the RedBud circuit, going down in the process,  Plessinger did not look hurt but re mounted 17th, pulled in for goggles and mounted another charge,  finishing in the 11th spot at the finish.   Ferrandis and Lawrence battled to the checkers, but ended up 1-2 respectively.

MX3  the stress was on for team USA after the other riders scores were not what they hoped,   all the weight of the team rested on the Monster Energy Yamaha #27 of Justin Barcia.  Barcia started 5th and with some inspired 1st lap passes moved his way into the #2 position behind Team Netherlands Glen Coldenhoff.   Barcia would dog the #6 Husky until the final laps almost pulling off a victory, but finally settling for the second place position.

Overall.  The USA Team overall qualifies in the 9th Position with Tomac’s moto being the throwaway. The team has 3 Motos on Sunday and it will be another soft RedBud race track.   Come out and cheer on your USA team (or another country if you have heritage or pride in that country). And bring your mud boots!
