In The Helmet - Baja LLQ

This Week IN THE HELMET: Al Morrison gives you his thoughts on Baja Acres LLQ

Another great day of racing in the books! Back to back race weekends brought me up to Baja Acres this past Sunday for their opening race weekend and Loretta Lynn Mideast Area Qualifier. While most racers were trying to punch their ticket to the upcoming regional at RedBud, I was looking for some big gate drops and boy did it deliver with 26 guys in 30 plus! Don Leddy kept me honest in moto 2 and after some back and forth action, he took the second moto win for 3rd O/A with 5-1 moto scores. Dustin Finn put in a great ride in 30 plus going 2-3 for 2nd O/A. I also signed up for 25 plus to get some extra riding time in and tried to keep James Roberts in sight!

Open Pro Sport was a fun race to watch with local riders Trenton Beyer and Matt Klann mixing it up with some fast out of state racers from Maryland and New York. Beyer ended up 2nd O/A with 2-3 moto scores and Klann 4thO/A with 3-4 moto scores. Matt Crown had a great Sunday sweeping all 4 motos in the 40 and 50 plus classes. Kreg Bigelow was right there keeping Crown in check in the 50 plus, finishing the day with 2-2 moto scores for 2nd O/A.

Baja Acres is a unique track compared to other GLMX and D14 tracks featuring wide lanes, fast speeds, and big jumps. Throw in some deep sand and things get rough! Hats off to Patrick and his staff for keeping the track safe and prepped all day. Each of my 4 motos had a different part of the track groomed directly before each gate drop and throughout the day I saw the dozer touching sections up. Motocross is a dangerous sport and it's great to see promoters doing their best to get us all home safe!

Thanks to the Grzebinski family and all of the staff at Baja Acres for putting on a great race! The next event at Baja Acres is the 2nd annual FarkenGruven, Saturday May, 26th. Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for more information on all of the FarkenGruven events happening this summer!"
