Our contributors sometimes venture out of the state of Michigan and we know the riders would like to know what these other tracks have to offer, so we will be "Crossing the Border"  to explore these new destinations, this week Evan Visits MX Express in Swanton, OH

The nostalgic feeling of a 2-stroke race is something that cannot be compared or duplicated.  Everyone loves the smell of pre-mix in the air, and for many of us, it takes us back to the days when we all started the sport of motocross.  Unfortunately, these feelings are something of the past with the evolution of today’s modern 4 stroke bikes.

However, this wasn’t the case this past Saturday as I ventured south and crossed into Buckeye territory to MX Express in Toledo, Ohio. Located about 20 minutes south of the Michigan state line, MX Express has been making a name for themselves as being one of the best practice tracks around for all Midwest privateers and locals alike. Providing the riders with a well-groomed track 3 days a week, with rough and rutted conditions that resemble a pro national track, anyone that is looking to put in some extra seat time during the week will get their fix at MX Express.

With the success of a Minis only race last year, the owner’s MX express were looking for something different to do that most tracks aren’t doing at the moment. This lead them to the idea of hosting a 2 stroke only race to kick off their summer months. Drawing in riders from across the country, the turnout of riders dusting off their old smokers from their parent’s barns, was far more than expected.

With classes ranging from 50cc Novice, up to Vet 50+ Open, kids and adults alike could find a class to suit their skill level. With over 140 signups, great racing was had in all classes. Local Ohio pro Greg Durivage was able to capture overall wins in both the 250 expert class and Open 2 stroke class. Other notable winners were Michigan’s own Carson Fields going 1-1 in the 50 expert class, RJ Shroyer taking the overall in the 125 expert class with 1-1 finishes, and David Glen finishing off the day with a 2-1 finish in the 50+ Open class.

“This is our first real race,” said Marty Wheeler, “We appreciate everyone coming down”. When asked about plans for the future, Marty also added that they will be hosting an Endurocross race coming up on July 17th of this year. “The goal is to do one race a month, starting with a Vets only race next year, and continuing with another 2 stroke shootout, Minis only race, a C class shootout and Endurocross”.

We would like to thank the crew at MX Express for hosting such fun events each year as they continue giving Michigan riders another track that is fun, safe, and close enough for us to drive down and put in some laps after working for the man all day during the week.
